My little Mary Frances

In My Young Uns on February 24, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Let me tell you a story about my little Mary Frances.  She’s our middle child and has a lovely, sweet way about her.  It melts daddy’s heart on many occasions, one of which was last night.  I had a date with my girls and as usual that means pizza on a blanket in the living room while watching one of their favorite movies.  On tap last night was “Piglets Big Adventure;” outstanding cinema!  Anyways we had finished our pizza and were all sitting on the couch enjoying the movie when Mary Fran stood up beside me a planted a kiss on my cheek.  She then looked me straight in the eye and said,”I just like you daddy.”  My heart melted, I would have bought her the world if only she had asked.

What does it really mean to trust in God?  I’m not even going to pretend like I have it all figured out but I have been doing a lot of thinking, praying and meditating on this subject in the last few days.  Here’s what I’ve learned so far.

Trust is abandonment:  We are not to even lean on our own understanding, Prov. 3:5-6.  I am learning to really use this word picture; In my minds eye I see myself leaning on something and if that’s not God and His plan for my life than it immediately has to change.  I am learning that I can fully lean all of my weight onto God and His promises.  This thought provides me with much peace and rest.  Comfort.

We are not to be anxious:  It’s not God’s plan for me to be anxious, Phi. 4.  We should take our worries and anxieties and form them into prayers that we present to God, lean on Him if you will.  Everytime one comes to mind I am trying to stop what I’m doing and lean into God giving my worry to him through prayer.  Again, tremendous comfort.

Finally, We must live in a state of constant communication with God if we are to have true peace:  To receive God’s peace we have to be connected to Him, 1 Thess. 5:16-18.  Remember that prayer is also listening and it is a time for God to communicate with us.  I have noticed a incredible sense of His presence when I come into my prayers humbly, silently and expectantly, just listening and being lead by His Spirit.

Hopefully this will be encouraging to some.

Yes, it snowed, and yes I’m sick of it, and yes we still have a couple of months before the arrival of spring, up here anyways, oh well, nothing I can do about it.

Anyways, in other news, I would like to thank my witty cousin Adam for his last comment on my last post.  Adam, point well taken, I will see you Friday in Pinehurst, bring you wallet cause I’m gonna take your money, buddy!  Of maybe we could play for pink slips?  What do you think?

In other, other news…please all be in prayer for Frans mom Debbie today.  She is having a heart procedure done which will thin the walls of her ventricular arteries.  Your thoughts and prayers will be much apprecieated!

Until next time dear reader, stay warm!

I’m Back

In Uncategorized on February 2, 2009 at 8:53 pm

I am sorry faithful reader, for my deliquincy in posting on this sight.  It has been rather busy in my world and I have neglected to make the time to sit down and write.  Please accept my sincerest apologies.

We were in Columbia over the weekend where we visited Frans mother and father and attended the wedding of one of Frans high school friends.  We had an enjoyable weekend and our girls had an especially great time staying with Papa and B and Uncle Grayson, Ward, of course, went to the wedding and reception with us.  And, now it’s back to work on Monday.

If you haven’t done so, head over to my brother Dustins blog where you will find interesting reading covering the founding fathers of our great country.  You can  find it here.   I think you will enjoy it very much, as I have.  Be sure to leave a comment or two, I know he will appreciate it.  I’ll see you all tomorrow.
