God and Money

In Uncategorized on January 12, 2009 at 3:30 pm

In my quiet time this morning I read a verse that really spoke to me, please consider Matthew 6: 24, Jesus talking, “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.”  I love how plain Jesus is here, it puts it out like it is and lets us deal with it.  I like that.

In my world as a business man, this is completely and drastically opposite of what I see and am taught on many occasions, it really is absurd.  Money is power, it’s status and to many it’s the reason they get up in the morning, and to be completely honest with you my reader, it’s a daily struggle for me.  Where is the balance in working hard to maintain a profitable, growing business, but not serving money?  I was telling my Heavenly Father this morning that I was struggling with this concept and I felt Him gently leading me to be an anomaly in this world of business.  What this looks like and how it will all play out, I don’t know, but, I will learn.

As always, your prayers are greatly appreciated.  Please pray specifically that I will not surrender my time and talents to the profit of this world but will “lay up treasures in heaven”  in my life and business.

The Dump

In Uncategorized on January 2, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I visited the dump the other day and walked away with a smile on my face.  Let me explain…  I have always enjoyed my visits to the dump, not only when I was a child going with my father, but also now that I am on my own with a family.  As a matter of fact I enjoy taking my kids with me, I think they like it too.

When I leave the dump I feel a sense of relief, a cleansing if you will permit the use of that word.  I feel better because I have taken my trash, my refuse, my junk and left in the care of the men who work there.  I never have to deal with it again, it’s gone, swept away by a huge front end loader and hauled away to be disposed of with all the other grimy, smelly, nasty trash of a thousand others.  Gone.

I think that my sin is dealt with the same way.  Consider Psalm 103:11-14, “For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As fsa as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.  As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him.  For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”

As I read these comforting words this morning I was reminded again of how much my Heavenly Father loves me and to what great lengths He has gone to remove my sin from me.  Consider also this verse from 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If we belong to Christ than this is our promise, we can trust in it with all.  Thank you Father for your cleansing, for your work on Calvary to wash away our sins, thank you Lord for trips to the dump.
